Considering the turnout of players and the fun students had playing sand volleyball, NE students will hold another game next week.
The one-day tournament included three teams, each made up of six players.
Of the four games, all but the fourth game was played until one team reached 11 points and won by two points. The fourth game was played until a team scored 15 points with a margin of two.
In the first game, the Dominators defeated the Destroyers, 11-3.
In the second game, the Modest Dominators were beaten by the Volleyballaz, 11-0. This game also presented a few surprises.
In the game, the Dominators changed its name to the Modest Dominators because of how bad the team was losing.
Also, instead of passing the ball to her teammate, Emily Darnell smashed the ball into her teammates’ jaw.
In the third game, the Volleyballaz beat the Destroyers, 11-9.
“Even though we lost every game, we still dominated,” Kimberly Jacob of the Destroyers said.
In the last and closest of all games, the Volleyballaz defeated the Modest Dominators again, 19-17.
“I had loads of fun, and I’m happy our team went undefeated,” Volleyballaz player Nellie Lutz said.
Antoinette Anderson of the Destroyers said she also had fun.
“We should do this next Friday. Whether it’s pro-like or not, it’s a great way for us to have fun,” she said.
Ciaban Peterson of the Modest Dominators said his team was strategic in its wins.
“Intimidation was key,” Peterson said. “I’d say our confidence and generally our being loud intimidated the other teams.”
Many of the students said that if the PE department at the school doesn’t put on another game next week, then they would just rent volleyballs and play at the school’s sand court.
“I plan on doing it again next week,” Lina Mino said. “It was really a good experience, and it’s a good way to meet new people.”
Yvonne Perrin said even though it has been a while since she played volleyball, she had a good time.
“I enjoyed it very much,” Perrin said. “All the team members were very cordial, and I would like to do this every Friday.
“I think everyone was really good, especially since a lot of us haven’t played in years. I think we had a lot of strong points like setting and serving.’
Gym supervisor Ken Foster said he was glad everyone had a good time.
“I’m very pleased with the turnout,” Foster said. “When the teams were selected, everyone seemed to play well together. I heard a lot of laughter, and that makes me happy.”
