Several dozen job-seekers converged on TR Campus April 9 for a Spring Job Fair.
Attendees included TCC students and non-students from throughout the community, representing all ages, ethnic and educational backgrounds.
At one of the tables, several young women completed job applications. Nearby, a recruiter from the city of Fort Worth said she was hiring several temporary positions for a children’s summer program.
“Even if you do not have professional child care experience,” she told a small group of women, “you should list on your résumé any related volunteer experience, like at your church or other community group.”
Similar summer day camp positions were open at the Northwest YMCA, said child care coordinator Holli Sanders.
Recruiters from JPS Health Network, FedEx, Fort Worth Police and RadioShack, which is housed on TRC, also talked with applicants about the available positions.
Tara Raby, an office manager at the Tarrant County District Clerk’s office, also handed out job applications.
“We have a number of part-time positions we would like to fill soon,” Raby said.
In particular, her office has openings for part-time scanners who will process volumes of court documents into an automated scanning system.
Candidates need not have a great deal of special experience for this job. However, they must be detail-oriented, Raby said.
Brenda Davis, 47, said she was a successful corporate trainer until the recession hit home.
“Currently, I am a student at UTA in their paralegal program, so I am looking for a paralegal position,” she said.
Her husband, Michael Davis, spoke with a recruiter at a nearby booth. Now working full-time in the insurance industry, he said he wants additional employment to help cover expenses until his wife finds a job. The couple has two children.
