Students can dress up, exercise on NW

People who like lifting weights and like dressing in costume can combine the two during the Costume Lift on NW Campus Oct. 30-31.

“We’re going to dress up in superhero costumes or any costumes Halloween-related,” said Chris Pleimann, NW student and member of B.E.A.R.S.

B.E.A.R.S., which stands for bodybuilding, endurance, athleticism, recovery and speed, is a student club that meets Monday through Friday in the NW gym.

Chuck Grier, president of B.E.A.R.S., said anyone can lift weights in costume. But the 1,000-pound challenge, a combination of bench press, squat and deadlift weights for each contestant, is only for current or prospective members.

“You don’t have to get over 1,000 pounds to join, but you do have to try,” said Brandon Davis, NW student and club member.

Pleimann said some people want to get cut, and some people want to bulk up.

“We try and help them with diet plans or any type of exercises … and try and mix it up,” he said.

The costume lift is 2-6 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 12:30-6 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the NW gym.
