All music lovers are invited to enjoy Dessert Theater on NE Campus Oct. 28 and hear the Chamber Singers perform group songs and solos.
Music assistant professor Bobbie Douglass said this event has been part of the music department’s schedule for the last three years.
Students will sing solos from musicals, such as Sweeney Todd, Camelot and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
“It is truly an amazing feeling to watch the students perform so well and leave the stage proud to show their parents and peers their talent,” Douglass said.
Music instructor Stan Paschal said students will sing group madrigals, which is a staple of choral music. He said Italian madrigals were recognized as the party music of the Renaissance period.
“Our students are very serious about music, but in spite of the seriousness, there is an element of fun or enjoyment and some sense of self-gratification for what they put into it,” Paschal said. “It is my hope that the audience will be entertained by the diverse repertoire and appreciate how hard these students work.”
Students also will perform jazz standards, such as “Tenderly” by Walter Gross.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Treats and sweets will be served. Admission is free and open to students and the general public.
