Oct. 29-Nov. 7 The American Cancer Society and health services are enrolling participants for a 20-year cancer prevention study. Recruitment will take place 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the North Ballroom on SE Campus, Oct. 30 in WSTU on NW Campus, Oct. 31 in NSTU 1506 on NE Campus, Nov. 5 in the SSTU Living Room on South Campus and Nov. 7 in the TREF health services office on TR Campus. The study will determine how genetics, lifestyle and environment work together to cause or prevent cancer. Participants must be 30-65, have never had cancer, be willing to give a small blood sample, be measured and commit to completing periodic surveys over a 20-year period. Oct. 30-31 The B.E.A.R.S. (Bodybuilding Endurance Athleticism Recovery Speed) club on NW Campus will host a weightlifting event in costumes 2-6 p.m. Oct. 30 and 12:30-6 p.m. Oct. 31. The group will recruit new members, so students are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing to the NW Fitness Center and be willing to compete in the challenge. Female contestants and those under 18 will be placed in a 500-pound lifting competition, and males will be placed in a 1,000-pound contest.
