Several classes end the semester with a speech or group presentation to showcase what the students have learned.
The NW Dance Program will present an informal concert, Assorted Pieces, as its spring semester concluding recital Friday, May 2.
Students in all of the spring dance technique classes and members of the Northwest Dance Company have been working collectively since January on several pieces that will be featured in the concert. Ballet, modern, jazz, tap and musical theatre are the featured dances.
Class instructors Lacreacia Sanders, Linda Quinn, Amy L. Ross, Laurie Sanda, Jeffery Kaplan and Kim Jackson have choreographed the concert.
Class projects that will be featured are student choreographed.
“There are always challenges when producing a show,” Sanders, NW associate professor of dance, said.
“Students and faculty have to work hard to get the choreography and overall production ‘just right,’” she said.
The NW dance department includes two dance companies: the Northwest Campus Dance Company and the Mosaic Dance Project.
Both companies perform in on-campus and off-campus concerts and at community events.
Sanders said Northwest Dance Company features dancers of all backgrounds, levels, ages and abilities, performing multiple genres of dance.
“Being that the dancers face many differences in regards to levels of abilities, they have a great deal of respect for each other,” she said. “This has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all.”
Students interested in performing with the Northwest Dance Company can enroll in dance performance on the NW Campus for the upcoming fall semester.
The 1 p.m. concert is open to the general public and will be held in the WTLO Theatre Northwest.
General admission is $1, and no reservations are required.
They will also perform April 25-26 at Scott Theatre. Tickets are available at NW business services.
