South film festival closes with look at abortion issues

Ourselves, Our Bodies: The Feminist Movement and Battle Over Abortion will close the Women’s History Month Film Festival on South Campus Friday, March 30, 2-4 p.m. in SRTA 1201.

Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes analyzes the legal and social history of pro-choice and pro-life arguments on abortion. The documentary is part of the 20th Century series produced by CBS News and the History Channel.

The film examines the time before Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion and observes subsequent court cases.

An A&E TV film review said women’s battle for equal rights has been a major revolution; however, reproductive rights and abortion are among the biggest battles that continue today.

Feminist leaders of all ages are interviewed about their stances and beliefs on the history of reproductive freedom. On the other side, women who strongly oppose the full legalization of abortion share their views.
