TR student Brianna Morgan is one of the many students who have fallen for Michael Kors.

Morgan bought her bag online from Macy’s and said online shopping is the best way to save money. She needed a large bag for school and said  the storage spaces inside are helpful in keeping her supplies organized. She thinks Michael Kors bags will always be trendy.

The instantly recognizable MK printed bags and clutches are being sported by students from many walks of life, including age groups. Both teenagers and older students can be found carrying them.

Chrystal Berumn, another TR student, bought her Michael Kors bag at an outlet mall for $220. This is her first Michael Kors bag, and though she believes that this trend will not be long-lasting, she said she will stick with the brand.

Hers is one of the best-selling styles with a deep brown print designed to look similar to the iconic Louis Vuitton canvas.

“Right now, it’s the one I’m into,” Berumn said.

Berumn used to buy Coach but disliked the material, she said. What she likes most about her current purse is the leather because it looks and feels classy. If she invests in another Coach bag in the future, she wants it to be leather, she said.

According to Business Insider, Michael Kors reported a 39 percent quarterly revenue increase in 2013.

Not everyone is following this trend, however. Christina Hernandez, a student worker in the Student Life Center, said she has noticed the trend but doesn’t consider herself a trend-follower.

“I tend to be my own person … my style is my own,” Hernandez said.

Paying a lot of money on accessories is OK, but not if it is an attempt to fit in, she said.

“I’m a bargain shopper,” she said. “To compete with others is not my style at all.”

Blanca Licon, another TR Campus student worker, said that the money spent on accessories will eventually add up.

“We are college students,” Licon said. “We could probably use that money for books or food.”
