Students heard from 10 area universities about transferring in a panel discussion on March 19 on NE Campus.
NE student Neel Bhatt plans to transfer next semester and has applied to Stanford, Cornell, Rice, the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at Arlington.
He received housing and scholarship information from the UTD representative.
“I should start applying for housing,” he said. “I also found out I have to submit some proof for my Phi Theta Kappa scholarship.”
People from UTA, Texas Christian University, Tarleton State, UTD, Texas Wesleyan, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Woman’s University, University of North Texas and Dallas Christian College were present.
They took turns explaining the advantages of attending their schools, focusing on transfer GPA requirements, different transfer scholarships, student-to-teacher ratios and campus life.
Texas Wesleyan representative Karla Rodriguez said it is free to apply to the school.
“You can apply, get accepted and see your financial aid award,” she said. “That way, if you think it’s too much or you can’t do it, you can withdraw your application.”
Texas Woman’s University representative Selena Alexander said a transfer connection event will occur April 5 on its Denton campus. Students who attend the event will get the $50 application fee waived.
UTA representative Tamika Taylor said her school has a smart hospital on campus with “special dolls” that do everything a human body does, contains the only architecture program in North Texas and ranks fifth in the nation in diversity.
The DBU representative Robert Williams said 99 percent of graduates from the school’s education program get jobs in that field.
He also said that DBU offers a Christ-centered education that focuses on integrating faith and learning and requires each student to have an internship.
“We want to get you guys plugged in to some sort of business or field,” he said. “So when you finish, you already have your foot in the door somewhere.”
NE student Tuyen Tran thought the different types of education and types of scholarships the schools provide was the best information given.
The transfer academy has one more session: a walking tour of the UTA campus 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 10 with transportation and lunch provided. Fifty seats are available, and registration is required.
