Student development services will get a new advocate next month, and she brings more than 30 years of experience with her.
Cathie Jackson will be appointed as the new associate vice chancellor for student development services June 4. She is currently the director of admissions and records.
Dr. Robert Aguero, vice chancellor for learning support services, said Jackson will now be coordinating with campus vice presidents, student development services, counseling, disability support services and testing centers to provide support.
“ By a reorganization at the district level, we eliminated the position she held before,” he said.
Aguero said in addition to her new roles, Jackson will also provide oversight of the admissions and record services that will remain at the district office.
“ Cathie will bring vision and enhance the areas of student development services,” he said.
Jackson said she is looking forward to becoming more familiar with student services and working with the staff involved.
“ I will provide resources for student development services, be their advocate, find out what they need and work on their behalf,” she said.
Her work experience started at the University of Texas at Arlington as support staff in the registrar’s office. She then became assistant registrar for Mountain View College.
Jackson joined TCC in 1975 as the assistant director of admissions. Ten years later she became the NE Campus registrar. She has provided leadership as district director of admissions and records for the last 16 years.
Jackson taught speed-reading and English Composition I at Mountain View College.
She was also an adjunct instructor for developmental English, English Composition I and English Composition II at Tarrant County College.
Jackson has served as secretary, vice president and president of the North Texas Council of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers.
She held the offices of secretary, treasurer and president of the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and served on numerous committees within that organization.
Jackson is also involved with both the Southern and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
She received her bachelor of arts in history and her master of arts in English from University of Texas Arlington, and her Ph.D. in higher education administration from University of North Texas.
She was also a student at TCC.
