As part of the NW Campus 40th commemoration of 1967-1968, the campus will host an all-night candlelight vigil in honor of Veteran’s Day.
Phases II and III of the Campus’ war memorial dedication will take place the same night Friday, Nov. 9.
The 6 p.m. program will have speakers; the showing of Making Of, a documentary about the war memorial wall; a dance presentation and the playing of “Taps.”
“ Taps” is usually played on a bugle at the end of each day on military bases and is used at funerals as a farewell.
The speakers will include Eric Elrod, a wounded Marine veteran of the conflict in Iraq; Jeffery Tisdale, military chaplain of the Joint Naval Reserve Base; Dr. Laura Matysek Wood, department chair of social sciences and professor of history and government; and Dr. Gary Goodwin, NW vice president of continuing education.
Goodwin will read a letter written by his father, who was a POW in Germany in WWII.
The NW dance company will perform an interpretive dance.
The Air Force Honor Guard from the Joint Naval Reserve Base will present the flag.
Throughout the rest of the vigil, Cornerstone students will read the names of heroes on the memorial wall along with the names of Tarrant County residents who were killed during the Vietnam War.
The all-night candlelight vigil is open to all TCC students to honor our nation’s veterans.
