Dancers to show issues in routines

South Campus dancers will celebrate the end of the semester with a formal concert Dec. 7 and 8.

The dance event, sponsored by the fine arts and dance departments, will be an opportunity for the TCC learning community to experience the progress of the dance department, Gypsy Crane, associate professor of dance, said.

Dancers from the Velocity Dance Company, selected members of various technique classes and members of the dance faculty will perform.

Crane said this event will give students an opportunity, “through the beauty of the dancing body, to look at some of the major issues facing our culture—issues like global warming and the environment, our current administration, body image as it relates to mass media and our constant pursuit as a people for a peaceful coexistence.”

Crane said it would also give students a chance to sit back, relax and be entertained before the stress of finals week.

Although this will be the last dance event of the semester, the department, Crane said, is very busy preparing for spring semester events, which will include a Hip Hop Dance event, twice-a-month performances by the Velocity Dance Company and a dance festival.

The Third Annual Dance Salad Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. both days in the Mainstage Theatre in the Performing Arts Center on South Campus.

Tickets are free for all TCC students, faculty and staff and $5 for the general public.

Portions of the concert contain adult language and situations.
