Subject to Change, a SE Campus art exhibit, features works by Dana Ferrara and John Phillips, both SE assistant professors of art.
Both artists explore the use of text and the perception of meaning in contemporary art through paintings, print, photography and video.
Phillips said most of his work is assemblage etching with some assembly and printmaking.
His work is inspired by television and the media.
Phillips, who teaches film appreciation, printmaking, art appreciation and art, started his career with the Dallas Community College District in 1991. He taught at Steven F. Austin University before coming to TCC in 1999.
Most of his work includes oil paintings with words and oil on paper. The majority of his pieces are black and white, done by printmaking and untitled.
Ferrara’s pieces include oil paintings, mixed media and photo.
“ My work is a variety of photographic and painterly ideas,” she said.
Ferrara started her teaching career in 1995 at various colleges including Austin Peay State University, Watkins College of Art (both in Tennessee) and Middle Tennessee State University.
In 1999, she became full-time at TCC, where she teaches painting I and II, design, art appreciation and art history.
Most of Ferrara’s works include color and a more contemporary style. Her favorite pieces are “Sky View Lane” and “2003 Beachwood,” both oil on canvas.
Phillips and Ferrara both have done commission work and have unique styles.
Subject to Change will be on display through Dec. 14 in Art Corridor II on SE Campus.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.
