Ben Barnard, Brooke Craddock, Jose Valverde and Betty Hawk trotted to victory in the NE Campus turkey trot Nov. 16.

More than 50 TCC students and employees participated in the event this year in both a 1-mile (3k) and 3-mile (5k) race.

The 5k race was new this year, and that resulted in increased participation in the event, Kim Kerby-Dickman, NE HPE instructor, said.

“We had people of all ages participate this year,” she said, “including four or five employees of TCC and three babies in strollers.”

The event was also held in conjunction with a canned food drive for the first time.

The top female in the 1-mile race was Hawk with a time of 9:58 while Velarde was the top male finisher with a time of 6:56.

In the 3-mile race, Barnard won with a time of 19:55 and Brooke Craddock with a time of 22:53.

An estimated time event, in which the winners were those who finished closest to their predicted time, was also held.

All the winners received a turkey, and all participants received a variety of prizes.
