South students learn stress management

“Live life now! Tomorrow is not promised!”

That was the message delivered by Sandra Johnson, a South Campus counselor, Sept. 23 in Stress Management.

She told students what stress is and gave tips on what people, specifically college students, can do to manage whatever stress life may throw at them.

“Stress is not what’s happening,” Johnson said. “It’s how you’re reacting to it.”

Johnson reassured students that not all stress is bad and people can also have good stress.

“Understand that stress is life,” she said.

South student Kanesha Toines said she learned from the seminar.

“What really stood out to me was actually understanding the definition of stress and what it means,” she said.

The seminar served as a motivational speech as well. Johnson urged students to “find your life systems and be self-governed.”

Johnson also encouraged attendees to try positive methods to manage stress. One was to talk to people like her who are counselors and professionals when it comes to helping people deal with certain problems.

“One way that I’m going to deal with my stress in the future is changing my reactions to situations,” Toines said.
