NW students looking to display their strength can sign up for the Lift-A-Thon starting at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 in the WHPE gym. The sign-up deadline is Feb. 12.

Students can participate in four events including bench press, squats, deadlift and the farmer walk.

There will be weight class divisions for both men and women with a winner from each division as well as overall winners for each gender. Prizes will be given to all winners.

Eighteen students turned out at last year’s Lift-A-Thon, and NW health and physical education adjunct instructor William Kaing hopes for an even better turnout this year.

“The bigger the event turnout, the more students we get in the gym using our facilities,” he said.

The Bears lifting club was a big part in putting together the Lift-A-Thon last year and will participate again, said April Miske, NW health and physical education administrative assistant.

Bears club president Chuck Grier said he looks forward to meeting his personal goals and seeing how the team has done.

“This event is about seeing if the hard work has paid off,” he said.

Last year, the winners of the overall gender categories were David Evers and Tiffany Edwards.
Students who wish to participate can sign up in the WHPE gym.
