Now-April 11 South is offering free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance in SFOF, the Family Empowerment Center 3-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The VITA program generally offers free tax help to people who make $53,000 or less and need help preparing their tax returns. Feb. 18 The NW Bridge Program will host a balancing life and school workshop 12:30-1:15 p.m. in WTLO 3101A. The sessions will go over tips and tools to help students in learning how to balance their lives.

Feb. 18 Student Success Seminar: The Culture of Debt will be presented 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Larry Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus. Presented by Randy Saleh, NE academic advisor and business adjunct instructor, the session will cover planning for emergencies and use of financial aid. Students who attend this seminar can learn how to make better decisions.

Feb. 18 The Big Picture on Body Image will be presented by Jordin Irvin from the Elisa Project for preventing eating disorders 12:50-2:10 p.m. in the SE Campus North Ballroom. Feb. 18 ASK training will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. in NBSS 1103 on NE Campus. ASK is a gatekeeper-training program, which teaches people to recognize suicide risk factors and teaches the proper channels and means to use in handling those situations. The workshop will be presented by NE counselors Masika Smith and Robin Copeland. All workshop participants must register at http://tccdne.volunteerhub.com.

Feb. 18 A student organization social will take place 5-8 p.m. in the Larry Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus. Students can interact on an academic and social level including fun games and team-building activities. The event is sponsored by student activities.

Feb. 18-19 TR students can attend the Service Fair 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on TRTR Main Street to learn more about opportunities to volunteer in the community. Several local organizations will be present including Tarrant Area Food Bank, Botanical Research Institute of Texas, Meals on Wheels and hospice facilities. Feb. 19 South will celebrate Chinese New Year 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the SSTU dining hall. Feb. 25 NW health services will present Navigating the Nutrition Maze to Achieve Health noon-1 p.m. in WHPE 1105. Featuring SE dietetic technician program director and coordinator Christina Liew-Newville, the event will teach students how to use food labels to make healthier choices, how to enhance nutrient intake with meal modifications and how to decrease risk for chronic diseases through nutrition. Feb. 26 Managing Credit: Priorities and Pitfalls will be presented 2:30-3:30 p.m. in NBSS 1103 on NE Campus. The TG Financial Literacy Program mini-module will cover the ways credit affects many areas of life, points people need to know about their credit reports and credit scores and some standard guidelines for keeping credit in good shape, including how to avoid identity theft.
