NW faculty and guest artists will perform Merge at 7:30 p.m. March 6 in the dance studio (WHPE 1103).

The performers feature faculty members from various campuses as well as guest dance companies.

The title of the performance comes from all of the artists having worked together at some point.

Merge is a meeting spot where we all come together,” said NW dance associate professor Amy Sleigh.

“What’s lovely about this performance is that we have all crossed in our journeys. We are all professional artists gathering and merging to present our artistic passion of dance. It’s like a family reunion.”

Some of the dances will also feature collaborations with students from the campuses’ dance companies.

NW dance adjunct instructor Emily Johnson-Boyd began working with student Michaela Cardinal in December for their dance duet.

“The piece is titled ‘Sisters’ and is about the sometimes tumultuous, supportive, playful but competitive relationship of two sisters,” she said.

“We began working on the piece with journal writing about our roles as ‘sisters’ and playing with partner movement. What has developed is a glimpse into embracing the responsibilities and gifts of sisterhood.”

SE dance instructor Jamie Perrin will perform  with a dancer from the SE student company Rhapsody Movement.

“Nick [Levingston] and I will be performing a contemporary dance as a duet,” she said. “The piece is choreographed by a former Rhapsody dancer Grace McGhee.”

One of the guest performers, the imPULSE Dance Project is presenting a dance inspired by newspaper photos throughout time.

“The photo ranges from images of war to the latest celebrity scandal to the game-winning play at a football game,” imPULSE artistic director Anastasia Waters said. “The piece touches on what has been considered ‘newsworthy’ to the public throughout time.”

Admission is free for TCC faculty and staff, $1 for students with an ID and $5 for the general public.

The performance will be followed by a poolside reception with live music.
