SE Campus will have a small recital at noon May 1 in the Band Hall.
The recital by students currently taking voice lessons is for anyone wanting to show support to those students or interested in taking the class next year.
Alandria Walker has been enrolled in the class for two semesters, and this will be her second recital.
“I am very nervous about the recital,” she said. “But it gives me a chance to get feedback from my peers and loved ones on how I am doing.”
The private voice lessons class helps students work on their voices in an individual setting.
“The recital is a big part of the class because it is the only time students will have someone other than the vocal coach hear them sing,” said Sarah Powell, SE lead vocal coach.
The recital also gives Powell a chance to connect with her students on a more personal level.
Recitals also allow friends and family to hear what the students are doing.
“I am going to be there to support Alandria,” said SE student Eman Bashir. “I have never heard her sing, so I am excited to see what she has been working on this semester. I also am interested in singing, so this will give me a chance to see if this class is for me.”
Walker sees the benefits in the classes and her second recital.
“I am not wanting to be a superstar at the end of this, but I do hope that my hard work is paying off,” she said. “I think the voice lessons are very helpful especially because they teach me how the voice actually works.”
The students will perform one song each. All students are welcome to attend.
