Undefeated professional and five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to fight Philippines congressman and eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao May 2 in Las Vegas.
Anticipating $400 million in revenue, promoters and the MGM Grand, where the event will take place, have been waiting for this moment like many boxing fanatics.
For more than five years, Mayweather and Pacquiao had a contract drawn up for a scheduled fight that never happened, which had boxing fans upset and confused. When the event was officially canceled, it shook up the sports entertainment industry. The controversy between Pacquiao and Mayweather was highly intense. Week after week, commentary, press conferences and social media debated the outcome of the event.
Fast-forward years later, and the enthusiasm and eagerness is beginning to rise as the public will witness history. According to Yahoo Sports, ticket sales have been priced between $1,500-$8,000. Only roughly 500 tickets will be sold to the general public at the 16,500-seat arena.
Recently, Mayweather compared himself to big-time world fighter Muhammad Ali, even claiming to make history and be better.
While Pacquiao takes a more humble approach, he hopes to bring this victory to the Philippines and his fellow Filipinos around the world.
