Sept. 30 NE Campus is ending its display of Bamboo Art by Shane Whitehead on the upper level of the NE Campus J. Ardis Bell Library. The collection includes large wall art of bamboo held together and decorated with hemp and/or bamboo cord, smaller pieces, bound books and flutes. Whitehead, NE kinesiology instructional associate, grows his own bamboo for the designs. On the lower level, Whitehead also has a digital display of close-up photographs of flowers and insects found on NE Campus. For more information, contact the artist at shane.whitehead@tccd.edu.
Now-Oct. 2 NW Lakeview Gallery is closing its run of Creaturely Moments. The exhibit features artwork by NW visual arts associate professor Trish Igo and artist Jill O’Brien. Oct. 1-3 South’s Carillon Theatre will present Katrina: 10 Years After in the Joe B. Rushing Center for Performing Arts. Created by the director and the students, the play tells the stories of Katrina survivors during and after the hurricane. Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for non-TCC students and senior citizens and free for TCC students, faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased the day of the performance beginning at 7 p.m. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. with no late seating. Oct. 6 The NE fine arts department will host solo guitarist Mike Morey at 7 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111). Students can hear a classical and flamenco guitar performance of original works. Morey has performed concerts throughout the U.S. and Europe while composing over 30 original works for multiple instruments. Oct. 14-17 The NE theater program opens its season with the production of God of Carnage. Written by Yasmina Reza, the show presents a look into two sets of parents who meet to discuss an incident in a civilized manner. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. Saturday matinee. Reservations are not required, but no one will be seated late. Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for seniors and non-TCC students and free for TCC students, faculty and staff. Oct. 14-18 Anatomy of Gray, described by its author as “a children’s story for adults,” opens the season for Theatre Northwest. Set in late 1800s Indiana, the play mixes humor with emotions as it deals with death, love, healing and loss. Content is appropriate for all ages. Performances are 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee in the theater (WTLO 1108).
