Students can experience a different culture or learn more about their own at the district’s sixth annual Abrazando al Exito (Embracing Success) Oct. 13 celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
Arlington Independent School District superintendent Marcelo Cavazos will serve as the keynote speaker.
Cavazos will talk about his own journey as a young person, as a student and now as a community leader.
“We hope the audience takes away a sense of belongingness and pride in their cultural heritage,” said event co-chair and SE counselor Carisa Bustillos Givens. “The event is open to all students from any background so that each student can experience a different culture, expand their perspective of the world and effectively contribute to our diverse society.”
The event, which includes dinner, will begin at 6 p.m. in SE Campus’ North Ballroom.
Although it is free for TCC students, faculty and staff, students are asked to register at http://tccdne.volunteerhub.com/events/index. A pre-event and registration runs 5:30-6 p.m.
Cavazos has been superintendent since 2012, and he is active in the community, serving on the United Way of Tarrant County Board, the Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County Board and the River Legacy Foundation Board.
