Bluegrass band plans show for NE Campus

The Salt Creek Band, a bluegrass group, will perform alternative music March 8 on NE Campus.

Al Stenzel, founding member of the band, will perform alongside four other band members.

“We play for festivals, restaurants, private parties, Fort Worth Stockyards and many more,” he said.

The Salt Creek Band was founded in 2000 and has performed across Texas for the past 16 years.

“It is an ensemble much like jazz,” he said. “Strings have structure and theme.”

The musicians have performed bluegrass pieces and other contemporary tunes that come with a Salt Creek twist.

Stenzel said the band consists of five members using a bass, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and a banjo.

At each event, the musicians play alternative music, provide the audience with background information on bluegrass and inform students of the instrumentation used.

“Once you have the gift of learning an instrument, it is something that you can play for the rest of your life,” Stenzel said.

The Salt Creek Band has a large fan base beyond Fort Worth, and people from all over Texas come to watch them perform.

The event sponsored by the NE music department takes place at 7 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111).
