Workshop to focus on clearing hurdles

TR Campus will offer a Building Resiliency workshop noon-1 p.m. March 24.

The workshop will provide students with information and skills to assist in overcoming obstacles that come up in life and disrupt their education.

Academic advisors Kellie Brown and Dover Wernli will conduct this workshop.

“We hope the student gains a sense of confidence, additional coping skills, problem-solving skills and the ability to overcome unforeseen obstacles in a positive way without interrupting their education,” Brown said.

The goal is to provide this information to students who may not normally seek advising and counseling when times get tough. The advisers want the student body to know they are not only there to advise academically but also to provide life-coping skills as well.

They hope anyone in the student’s circle of family and friends also can benefit from this workshop.

“If students show resilience, they can become a great example not only to their family, friends but whomever they come into contact with who sees their tenacity,” Brown said.

Advisors will provide students with a survey at the end of the presentation to gather information on which topics interest students.

“Know we are not only there to enrich your academic life, but we want you to have a full and positive enriched life,” she said. “We are here to help our students achieve their goals.”
