SE Campus kicked off its newest art exhibit Ya Casi: Paintings by Erika Duque, which will be available for students to view until March 31 in Art Corridor II.
Duque, a Masters of Fine Arts candidate at Texas Christian University, presented her work from the past two years mainly focusing on the healing properties of nature.
“I started making my work based on my own photographs of nature and what gave me a therapeutic feeling,” she said during a Feb. 9 artist reception.
SE student Aysha Nadurath said she attended the gallery because she enjoys seeing the new exhibits, recognized Duque’s name and liked her previous work.
“I enjoy Duque’s work because not a lot of people do landscape paintings, and the way she executes hers is transfixing,” Nadurath said.
SE administrative assistant Leah Tampkins said she saw the setup for the gallery and loves to see the new artist’s work.
“My grandpa is an artist, so I grew up surrounded by art,” Tampkins said. “I enjoyed the painting Oklahoma City because it resonates home.”
Duque says she hopes gallery spectators enjoy her work and insight and also hopes to have future exhibits at TCC campuses.
