El Centro College art faculty member Josh Rose will conduct a free Your Life in Comics: Incorporating Autobiography Into Newspaper Comics workshop for TCC students, faculty and staff 2:20-3:40 p.m. March 1 in the SE library.
During the workshop, Rose will discuss his work, how he wrapped autobiographical concepts into the Cosmo comic he wrote as a student and motivations for creating the comic.
In the hands-on segment, participants will create a personal, three-to-four-panel strip.
“I hope participants come away with the sense that they can find inspiration in their own lives but not be beholden to be completely accurate,” he said.
Comics have always been a part of Rose’s life. His path to studying art was actually by way of comics, he said.
At a young age, comics introduced him to relating ideas through text and images and piqued his interest in the development process from the artist’s drafting board to a completed product.
The SE library will sponsor the event with a grant from the Will Eisner Foundation, which promotes the importance of graphic novels and comics in modern culture, SE library services assistant director Tracey Minzenmayer said.
