Students who take Portraiture or Intermediate Spanish II next semester can spend spring break in Cuba.
Students can register now for the two courses that run from Feb. 5 to March 29.
The island of Cuba is a popular destination spot for many people, mainly for its distinct culture, music and history.
“I made my first trip to Cuba in December 2011. Since then, I have been there nine times,” NE photography associate professor Patricia Richards said.
The students leave for Havana March 9 and return March 18. The land package covers nine nights in Havana, food, transportation and a guide but not the flights or tuition. Students can explore Cuba’s culture and history.
“I want to learn more about my Cuban heritage and discover where my grandparents came from,” said NE student Rachel Artiles, one of several students planning on going.
Each class is limited to 10 participants, but a minimum of seven students is required for the trip to take place.
“I’m pretty good friends with my classmates, so going to another part of the world with people I love just makes it even better,” NE student Raúl Rodelo said.
Those interested must register for either Portraiture or Intermediate Spanish II for the spring semester. A course fee can be paid to business services to secure a spot.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that has been given to me,” NE student Daisy Torne said, “I am super excited.”
Last summer, the Intermediate Spanish II class went to Cuba with instructor Humberto Rodriguez who will return to teach on this trip.
“It was nothing short of amazing,” Rodriguez said. “The students came away with an increased confidence in their Spanish and spoke of their inspiration to return to Cuba and explore more of the island.”
