The NE Student Government Association wants to unite clubs and the student body into one cohesive voice.

“What we aim to do is take all of these separate voices and unify them,” said president Annissa Mosher. “Then, we can take that to the administration and say this is what the students want, definitively.”

Mosher said the club’s main goal is to facilitate communication not only with administration but among clubs on campus as well.

“While clubs on campus have individually been able to achieve great things, I know that this will only be amplified as we start to work more as a team to bring about positive change on campus,” she said.

According to NE government associate professor Doris Jones, some clubs have already begun to work together. Jones is the faculty adviser of the Student Political Awareness Club, which worked with the Student Government Association on a recent voter registration drive.

They are also planning future events and fundraisers with other groups, like Phi Theta Kappa and the Organization of Latin American Students.

Mosher said she encourages everyone to get involved by attending the forums and student government meetings. Participation numbers are growing, and a record number of student senators attended the previous two forums to voice their clubs’ concerns. She said more students have showed up who are not associated with a club or organization.

“Members of the student body not associated with a club can come and speak as well,” she said. “Non-senator members are allowed to speak at the end of the meeting during new business to voice any concerns or ideas they may have.”

The biggest benefit, Mosher said, to participating in the organization is the line of communication students will have with administration. Prior to reforming the student government last spring, no avenue existed for students to have a voice on campus, she said.

Vice president Tyler Weatherred agrees.

“The atmosphere is different this year,” he said. “The club community has really gotten together on this to help push it forward.”

Students who are interested can attend the Student Government Forum 12:30-2 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Galley (NSTU 1506) or email Mosher at annissa.mosher@my.tccd.edu.
