NW dancers perform many styles in concert

NW dance students will have the opportunity Oct. 26 to perform the eclectic works they choreographed.

Mosaic in Motion, produced by the Mosaic Dance Project touring company, will be 7:30-9 p.m. in WTLO’s Theatre Northwest.

The company dancers strive to bring dance into the community with their performances, dance associate professor Lacreacia Sanders said.

To accomplish this goal, the event includes an outreach program with local high schools.

The company auditions for members every July and performs the annual event in October, Sanders said.

“It will include all styles: modern, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary,” she said. “Also, there will be five solos choreographed by company players and a musical theater collage.”

It is a family-friendly event, Sanders said.

“It’s a concert that has something for everyone,” she said. “It’s a chance for students to see their classmates on stage, and they can bring their families.”

Company member Katie Nichol said the group has rehearsed several times in preparation for the concert.

“It’s a lot of fun, and I get to dance with people I care about,” she said. “You get to share something you love with everyone else.”

Member Brianna Johnson said this is her second time to dance in the event.

“I’ve been dancing since I was 2, and it’s something I want to do as a career,” she said. “Dance is another language I can use to tell my story.”

General admission is $5, $1 with student ID and free for faculty and staff.
