In a recent press conference in Dallas, three cast members of the new movie The Hunger Games, based on the popular book series by Suzanne Collins, shared their excitement on the release of the film.
Josh Hutcherson, Isabelle Fuhrman and Jacqueline Emerson all play characters forced to fight to the death before a viewing audience in The Hunger Games.
Hutcherson said he is similar to his character Peeta Mellark and was excited about being cast for the part.
“My character Peeta is so interesting, and I connect with him on so many levels,” he said.
With The Hunger Games phenomenon still spreading, the actors have seen firsthand the enthusiasm of crowds at promotional mall events they have attended throughout the country.
“It’s scary because I have never seen so many people passionate about something,” Hutcherson said. “I didn’t think that humans could give off such a high pitch.”
Emerson and Fuhrman admire Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the Hunger Games played by Jennifer Lawrence. Even though both play her enemies in the film, they say they are definitely Team Katniss.
“I think it’s really great that there is a strong female role who is not ruled by romance but by her love for her family,” Emerson said.
Hutcherson, who had recently seen the movie, said he was pleased with the film.
“I feel it is extremely accurate to the book, and you get to see other character’s perspectives,” he said. “I was blown away.”
