Military veterans seeking information on health and education benefits can find information at a NE Campus seminar.
NE financial aid and student activities will sponsor the event 3-5 p.m. April 28 in NSTU Center Corner.
“The intention is to inform the veterans in general how to get into the [Veterans Affairs] hospital and use the facilities,” said Cesar Martinez, NE student, event organizer and VA work-study financial aid clerk.
Tyrone Hunter, transition patient advocate; Joyce King, suicide prevention coordinator; and Dawne Divine, education compliance specialist, will speak about their specific areas of knowledge that can help veterans achieve more day-to-day.
“This gives student veterans the opportunity for anyone who has been in the military to enroll in the Department of Veterans Affairs medical administration,” Hunter said. “Eligibility includes those who have been honorably discharged.”
Veterans are given a number of avenues to get education and health benefits, but they sometimes don’t know where to go or how to get them, Martinez said.
The event is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
“A lot of us have a family member who is serving in the military or who is ex-military, and this will help them also,” Hunter said.
