Students will taste history and heritage when history/government instructor Carlos Rovelo gives two workshops involving food.

Rovelo’s A Taste of History (Chocolate) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Student Center on South Campus will give students the opportunity to try different variations of chocolate.

They will also learn about the history of the cocoa plant and its relationship to Hispanic heritage as well as its importance in Central and South America.

He said the cocoa plant was used as currency, a beverage and a counting tool.

Rovelo will also conduct a Taste of Culture workshop 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 16 on South Campus.

During the session, students can sample a variety of different dishes from various Latin countries.

The workshop will focus on how food is a reflection of culture. Rovelo also will explain how foods tell a story about heritage, history and honor.
