Newspaper shows off NE group’s works of art

By Gary Collins/reporter

Artists, art fans and aspiring artists now have a way to leave their mark on the artistic community on NE Campus.

Last fall, the NE art department began publishing The Underground Musepaper, which contains information about art on campus.

The paper is available in the Fine Arts Building.

A muse is the creative force behind an artist, what inspires them to create.

The art department collaborated on the idea as several faculty members wanted a way to get exposure for their work and for students.

“It was conceived as a way for the art department to have an avenue to publish student works and faculty works, thoughts, essays and writings,” editor and NE art instructor Andrew Stalder said.

Six issues are printed a year, three a semester, and each issue has a featured artist. The featured artist for each issue is usually nominated by a faculty member.

All students are invited to contribute, and there are no specific guidelines, art requirements or formal art training.

Contributors can write about a variety of art topics from their favorite works to their favorite artist.

“Anybody can write for the paper — students, art students and art faculty,” he said. “Anything that’s art-related, we’ll publish.”

Interested students can contact Stalder at andrew.stalder@tccd.edu. The second spring issue is scheduled for release after spring break.
