Campus Voices: What do you feel is affecting the environment the most? What can we do to help?

Regan Stovell, NE Campus

“I would say a huge thing is just the constant use of AI and how generalized its becoming in society today. I mean, there’s so many, especially  TCC students, that will use AI to complete their assignments, and it uses just so much water. We’re literally running out of drinking water. We have ice caps that are melting and, you know, animals that are going extinct, and I think that AI really does just play a huge role in that, you know? It’s just so dangerous. … I think AI really needs to be regulated and people need to cut back on their use of AI, like Chat GPT and things like that.”

Kayode Gbadebo, NW Campus

“Big companies. They produce a lot of things, but to them, it’s just money. … A lot of things that we produce, we can’t burn, so you have to find another way because now it turns into pollution. If it affects the earth, it affects us too, because we live here and we need it to actually survive. … We need to change a lot of laws. A lot of rules, a lot of laws, starting from the actual government. We need to stop idolizing companies, stop idolizing celebrities, stop basically making the people who are at the top stay at the top.”

AJ Sowell, NE Campus

“Honestly, I’d probably say humans. … We don’t make the best decisions. We constantly harm the environment. Not saying everyone’s bad. There’s a good amount of people that do small stuff like littering, you know, being rude to someone, just small stuff like that. … I mean, I feel like when someone wants to do good for others, why not do good for where we live? You know, we only get one Earth. Let’s take care of it. … It’s something so simple as just picking up trash, throwing it away.”

Valeria Acevedo, NW Campus

For me, it’s AI… I feel like we’re so cooked right now. Everyone is using AI. … I don’t think most of them know how much it affects them. … Hopefully, one day, people understand before it gets to a breaking point. This is going to eventually kill us one day, but I doubt they’ll stop.”
