South seminar helps learn to be one own entrepreneurs

By Kat Fay/reporter

Women in New Roles will sponsor a seminar on South Campus for anyone with an interest in the ins and outs of being an entrepreneur.

Is Owning Your Own Business for You? is being led by Michelle Martin, membership vice president for Plaid for Women — a group dedicated to producing and distributing content to help women achieve success in their goals.

The seminar will begin at 11:15 a.m. Feb. 5 in the SSTU Texas Room on South Campus. Martin will explore what is needed to start a business, entrepreneurial personalities, and ways to create a business plan that will lead to success.

Martin works with Plaid for Women to help connect women entrepreneurs to the resources and contacts that they need to create a profitable and successful business.

Triesha Light, psychology associate professor and South WINR coordinator, said she wants all TCC students — male and female — to get an inside look from a community business leader on the importance of business plans and the huge impact entrepreneurs have in creating jobs. Light said anyone can attend, and the only thing one needs to bring is curiosity.

Although the WINR program is geared toward women, it sponsors events and seminars that both men and women can attend, Light said. For any questions concerning WINR or future seminars, contact Light at 817-515-4740 or triesha.light@tccd.edu.
