Feb. 6 Carter BloodCare will be on South Campus for a blood drive 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The blood drive is located in a mobile unit on the SSTU patio.

 

Feb. 6 South health services will sponsor free confidential HIV/AIDS testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Health Center (SACC 1331). Results will be available through the AIDS Outreach Center.

 

Feb. 6 The AIDS Outreach Center will be on NE Campus for free confidential HIV and syphilis testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in NSTU 1704A. Walk-ins are permitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will receive the results via appointments within a week in health services.

 

Feb. 6 The SE library will offer TCC Gmail Training 2-3 p.m. in the library classroom (ESED 1211). Students will see a presentation and receive training in how to use their student email accounts effectively.

 

Feb. 6 SE student activities presents Veterans Untold Stories 2:20-3:40 p.m. in the Campus Conference Center. Vets on campus tell their stories about their experience in the military. Refreshments will be served.

 

Feb. 6 The Science of Happiness will be presented 2-3 p.m. in WACB 1123 on NW Campus by vice president of student development services Joe Rode. The workshop will examine recent studies about the nature of happiness.

 

Feb. 6-7 SE career services will host a Service Learning Fair 9-11 a.m. Feb. 6 and noon-2 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Main Commons. Nonprofit organizations such as the Arlington Public Library, the River Legacy Living Science Center and the JPS Health Network will recruit volunteers for their spring and summer activities. Feb. 6, 13 SE health services will offer HIV/AIDS testing 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 6 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 13 in health services (ESEC 2118). The screening is free for students and takes about 10 minutes. For more information, call health services at 817-515-3594.

 

Feb. 7 The SE transfer center and veterans counseling is hosting Veterans Transfer Breakfast 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the North Ballroom. The event includes a college fair for TCC veteran students where college representatives provide information and answer student questions. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Feb. 7 Dual Diagnosis is a mental health session organized by TCC’s mental health and continuing education departments. The program is open to students as well as licensed professionals 1-4 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615) on NE Campus. Dr. Nishend Vasavanda and counselor Jim Savage will explain what a dual diagnosis is, how to identify it and how to treat it. Three contact hours will be awarded to licensed professionals who register for the professional section. A light lunch will be provided. Feb. 7 NW Campus career and employment services will present Student Leadership Academy: How to be a Successful New Hire 2-4 p.m. in WACB 1123. Feb. 8 The Love Your Heart workshop will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in WSTU 1303 on NW Campus. Aetna health educator Mercedes Cruz-Duque and Tarrant County public health educator Sherry Williams will discuss ways to a healthy heart through nutrition, exercise and stress management. Feb. 8 The SE Campus Lunar New Year Celebration 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. will be in the Main Commons. Liberal arts instructional associate Vivian Lu celebrates the year of the Black Snake with an origami exhibit and demonstration. Feb. 11 A free lunch will be served during the lunchtime workshop noon-1 p.m. in the Discover Room (TRTR 3102). This week’s topic is about career choices. Students can learn about the decision-making process and learn how to choose their careers carefully. As a part of the Ready, Set, PLAN! workshop series, this workshop will focus on student success, planning and commitment.

 

Feb. 11-12 The TR Drama Club will host a Valentine’s Day fundraiser selling real and artificial flowers, brownies, cookies, decorated baskets of candy and bottled poems. Students can buy their loved ones goodies noon-3 p.m. outside of the Riverfront Café on TRTR Main Street. Proceeds will be divided between the Drama Club and charity.

 

Feb. 12 A Community Volunteer Fair will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the WTLO lobby on NW Campus. Various nonprofit organizations will be on campus to recruit students. For more information, call NW career services at 817-515-7785.

 

Feb. 12 SE career services presents Career Camp: Employers Tell All 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the North Ballroom. A panel of employers will speak about what they look for in job candidates. Feb. 13 TR career services is hosting a fashion show 11 a.m.-1 p.m. outside the Riverfront Café on TRTR Main Street. The show will have students modeling stylish, professional outfits appropriate for interviews and business meetings. A skit will follow the show to illustrate what not to do when meeting with employers. Students can have a light snack and pick up on tips for a successful interview.

 

Feb. 13 The SE culinary arts department and SE library present Operating a Vegetarian Food Truck noon-1 p.m. Executive chef Christina MacMicken from Good Karma Kitchen will talk about what it is like to own and run a food truck that serves a gourmet healthy cuisine. The mission of Good Karma Kitchen is to promote a balanced, holistic lifestyle by providing high-quality food while educating customers on healthy, vegetarian and gluten-free living. Feb. 13-14 SE student activities hosts a Valentine’s Day Shopping Spree 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Main Commons. SE student organizations raise money by selling items students, faculty and staff can buy for Valentine’s gifts. For more information, call student activities at 817-515-3595.

 

Feb. 14 The Bone Marrow Donor Registry will be on NE Campus 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the NTAB lobby. The national bone marrow donor program needs a diverse group of donors since patients are most likely to match someone who shares their racial and ethnic background. The technicians need only a tissue swab from inside the participant’s cheek to get a donor into the registry. Cash donations are also welcome. Feb. 14 NE career services will hold an open house branding workshop The BRAND Is You! — Personal Branding Tips 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Career Center (NSTU 1625). Students can learn techniques for branding themselves to potential employers or just stop by and learn what NE career services can offer students in general. Feb. 14 SE health services and student support services present Sexual Coercion and Date Rape 11-11:45 a.m. and 1-1:45 p.m. in ESEE 1301. Amy Suffield from the Women’s Center will discuss the types of sexual coercion and date rape, risk reduction and steps to take in such an event. Feb. 14 The NE Student Leadership Academy’s Conflict Resolution will run 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615). Students can learn about positive reactions and resolutions for dealing with conflict.

 

Feb. 16, 18 The NW math department is offering students free workshops throughout the semester. The first workshop, Slopes, Equations of Lines and Graphing Lines will be offered 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 16 in WTOL 2126 and 7-9 p.m. Feb. 18 in WTLO 2205.
