Copout, which seems just like one of those cop-buddy comedy/action flicks like Bad Boys and Rush Hour, stars Tracy Morgan (Paul) and Bruce Willis (Jimmy).
The movie is mostly action and suspense, but it has a little comedy, too. It all starts when the longtime NYPD partners ruin a case by getting caught while trying to go undercover to get some drug dealers. With their badges and guns confiscated, they will have 30 days of no pay.
Jimmy decides to pawn his mint-condition baseball card to get money to pay for his daughter’s $50,000 wedding. When he gets to the pawn shop, a thief (Sean William Scott) steals the baseball card, leaving Willis on the floor.
Somehow, the card ends up in the hands of a Mexican gangster obsessed with baseball collectibles. So the duo begins the chase, but Paul can’t focus on the case because he is too worried about his wife’s supposed infidelities. Paul’s actions provide some comedy since he does crazy things like buying a nanny-video-camera bear to check on his wife.
To get the card back, Jimmy must retrieve the gangster’s stolen Mercedes, where a Mexican woman, Gabriela (Ana de la Reguera), is hidden. What the gangsters really want is a flash drive the woman is wearing that holds all their drug dealing information. Several laughable moments come from Morgan and William Scott, who actually has few appearances in the movie.
Even though the two main actors have several differences, one being an action star and the other a comedy star, they have good compatibility in this movie.
Overall, the movie can be entertaining. The audience never knows what is going to happen next.
