The Derailers Under the Influence of Buck (3 stars)
The Derailers tackles 13 Buck Owens tracks for its new album, Under the Influence of Buck.
The cover CD brings new life to old-school country by recreating many of Owens’ famous tracks.
The twangy vocals by frontman Brian Hofeldt never get boring, and the band truly understands and enjoys Buck Owens’ music.
The band captures the frantic ’50s essence to a tee with “Johnny B. Goode,” Owens most known hit.
The only fault seen with this CD is its purpose. Sure the album is entertaining, but it doesn’t bring anything new to Owens’ hits.
Under the Influence of Buck is a good cover album, but nothing more.
