Students looking for a job either now or after graduation can attend Job Search Methods/Time Management today on SE Campus.
The seminar, 4-5 p.m. in the North Ballroom, is presented by Darrell E.F. Whitsell, senior office assistant in student career and employment services on SE Campus.
The seminar will include job search methods, strategy, resources and ways these relate to time management. Whitsell will also include information regarding making and revising a resume and preparing for the application process.
Whitsell said he has first-hand experience in how a job search can become a full-time job because he spent a year looking for a job.
He said he believes many individuals lack a focused job search strategy, which can lead to frustration.
“ The main idea I want to get across is how to develop a [self-] marketing and follow-up strategy,” he said.
Several handouts, pamphlets and information on job search databases will be available. Some of these include a new handbook made by TCC and a travel-size pocket resume. The handbook covers how to network and how to interview. The pocket resume provides interview tips and space to put in information for filling out an application.
Faculty members are encouraged to come so they can inform their students. Whitsell said he plans on presenting career specific job search information in classrooms in the near future.
