The spirit of volunteerism was in the air on NE Campus March 31 for its Big Day of Service event.
Students, faculty and school organizations gave their time to various projects around campus to make a difference on campus and around the TCC community. Student activities provided cleaning supplies and a lunch to the volunteers who participated.
National Society of Leadership and Success president Bianca Davidson said putting the event together was stressful, but at the same time fun for the 70 people who attended.
“It’s not easy finding projects for people to do and for them to sign up for,” she said. “But the event turned out to be amazing because I didn’t expect a lot of people to show up.”
The event featured a campus cleanup, writing letters to veterans, a blood drive, and a river cleanup.
Student ambassador president Rashel Hariford expressed what the day meant to her and to student ambassadors.
“The Big Day of Service is an opportunity for the students to give back to the school because they do so much for us and provide so many opportunities and services for students,” she said.
NE student Brock Crymes said people should volunteer their time not just for one day, but whenever they have time to do so.
“Take time out of your day to tell people, ‘Hello,’ ‘Have a great day’ or just be kind to one another,” he said. “Simply just get out and volunteer in your community. It doesn’t need to be limited to an organization or a campus.”
