Students had their Speedos and goggles ready for the SE Campus intramural swim relay April 21.

Recreational and competitive swimmers were each given separate divisions.

Each division had three contests with the recreational swimmers competing in the 25-foot front crawl, the 50-foot front crawl and the 50-foot medley.

The advanced swimmers competed in the 50-foot crawl, the 50-foot breaststroke and the 50-foot two-stroke medley.

The swimmers didn’t have starting blocks, so they began their races in the pool.

Swimmer Morayo Orekoya placed first in the 50-foot medley with a time of 50.17 seconds.

She said the relay intimidated her because she was an inexperienced swimmer.

“I was nervous at first because this is the first semester of swimming I ever took,” she said. “I didn’t know how to swim before this. I would have sunk before.”

Shazad Nazir finished first in the 25-foot front crawl with a time of 21.58 seconds. Trevor Vander finished first in the 50-foot front crawl with a time of 26.5 seconds.

Jacob Hart placed first place with a time of 41.9 seconds in the 50-foot front crawl.

Kenton Hoskins finished first in the 50-foot breaststroke with a time of 37.63 seconds and the 50-foot two-stroke medley with a time of 32.2 seconds.

“I felt like I left it all in the pool, but I felt like I could have done better,” he said. “I swam a 28 [seconds], but I want to get it down to my high school time of 26.5 [seconds].”

SE student Sonia McGensey said she can’t remember the last time she swam in a competitive relay.

“I felt pretty good, considering I haven’t swum in a long time,” she said. “I haven’t swum like this since high school, which was a long time ago.”
