Now-April 19 The South Visions Unlimited program and social sciences department will sponsor Every Vote Counts 12:30-2 p.m. on the SSTU patio. They also will host a weeklong voter registration drive. To kick off the registration, South Campus president Peter Jordan, who recently relocated to Texas, will be the first voter registrant. Student development and continuing education will provide food, entertainment and ESL services.

 

Now-April 21 Registration continues for Nutrition Rocks Camp, an educational health camp for second- to sixth-grade children. The SE student dietetic organization will host the camp 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 21 on SE Campus. Registration, which includes a healthy lunch, is $35 for the first child and $30 for each additional sibling. For more information, contact Monika Star at monika.star@my.tccd.edu.

 

April 18 SE Campus health services will offer free HIV/AIDS testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in ESEC 2118.

 

April 18 Staussa Ervin, SE psychology assistant professor, will present How to Pamper Yourself on a Budget 12:50-2:10 p.m. The Health and Wellness Workshop, sponsored by the SE counseling department, will be held in the North Ballroom on SE Campus.

 

April 18 The SE Campus library will host a Poetry Slam at 1 p.m. in the library.

 

April 18 TR Campus will hold a free statistics workshop focusing on sampling distribution, constructing a confidence interval and performing hypothesis testing. The workshop is 1-2 p.m. in TREF 7336.

 

April 18 South Campus English department and Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society are hosting the annual Jazz Jam/Poetry Slam at 6 p.m. in the South Campus Recital Hall. Participants should sign up in advance at SFOA 1623. Participants need three original poems, one for each round of the competition. The top three places in two prize categories —TCC participants and non-TCC participants — will receive an Amazon.com gift card. Open to anyone, the slam is free.

 

April 18 The NW Alpha Delta Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa will host an induction ceremony to honor new members 7-8 p.m. in WSTU 1303/05. The event is free. For more information, call 817-515-7795.

 

April 19 The NE Earth Fest will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the chessboard area outside the Student Center. Student organizations and community vendors will participate. Local organizations will also be present for a job fair.

 

April 19 Carter BloodCare will host a blood drive on NE. Students can donate 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the mobile bus in front of the Student Center. A photo ID is required to donate.

 

April 19 Five Top Myths about HPV for Men and Women will be presented 10-11 a.m. in the North Ballroom on SE Campus. The event is sponsored by SE health services, and refreshments will be served.

 

April 20 Earth Day will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the ESCT Bistro on SE Campus. Students are invited to come make a “cup o’ dirt” and enjoy a sweet treat.

 

April 20 TR American Sign Language Club movie night features Ingelgore, a film that gives the perspective of the Holocaust through the eyes of a deaf Jewish girl. The show starts at 7 p.m. in the Energy Room (TRTR 4008).

 

April 20 South government associate professor Wanda Hill will give an off-campus mini-lecture and provide voter registration at 1 p.m. at Day Resource Center at 1415 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth. Hill will lecture about educating, empowering and registering the Tarrant County homeless. After the lecture, those who register to vote will receive a box lunch.

 

April 21 South’s Every Vote Counts will wrap up the weeklong voter registration events 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with registration near the back of the Rotunda.

 

April 21 TR Campus will participate in a campus day of service 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at various worksites. Volunteers are needed for painting, clean up and work in community gardens. Lunch will be provided. To sign up, go to the volunteer hub or contact Laura Escamilla at 817-515-1194.

 

April 21 NE health services will sponsor free, confidential HIV and syphilis testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the health services office (NSTU 1704A). Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. For more information, call 817-515-6056.

 

April 21 The Trinity River Equality in Education club will host the Second Chance Prom 7 p.m.-midnight in the Riverfront Café. All singles and couples (LGBT and straight) are welcome but must be a current TCC student or a guest of a student. Tickets are $10 each or $15 per couple and must be purchased in advance. April 25 Tarrant County Alive! will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the SE Campus Commons, where students can sign up for online health coaching.

 

April 25 SE Campus writing center will provide a free APA-style documentation workshop 6-7 p.m. in ESEE 2227A. Information will be given on how to format an APA-style works cited page, header, title page and in-text citations. Information will also include tips on documenting Internet sources and database articles.

April 26 NW Campus will host a blood drive sponsored by Carter BloodCare 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the WFAB and WTLO driveway. The event is free and open to the public.

 

April 26 The Shakespeare Carnivale will take place 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus. Students can celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday with music, games, videos and arts and crafts. The NE student and faculty jazz combo will perform, and snacks and refreshments will be served. April 26 The NW evening health fair will be 4-8 p.m. in the WHPE building. More than 30 vendors will offer various free screenings. Volunteers will accept donations of two canned food items and/or gently used clothing.

April 26 TR Campus American Sign Language Club hosts ASL comedian Keith Wann. Born to deaf parents, Wann has collaborated with other ASL artists on deaf culture, improvisation and sketch comedy. He will perform Watching Two Worlds Collide at 7:30 p.m. in the Energy Room (TRTR 4008). Tickets are $10 for ASL members and $15 for non-club members. April 27 In celebration of Arbor Day, student activities will sponsor a cookout 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the SE Campus front lawn.

 

April 28 NW Campus’ Walsh Library will host the Marine Creek Reading Festival: Reading Circus 9-11 a.m. on the WTLO third floor. Volunteers will read to local elementary school children. The event is free and open to the public.

 

April 30 TR continuing education will hold a free job fair and expo for persons with disabilities 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Special breakout sessions such as dress for success, interviewing techniques and résumé writing will be available. May 4 The South Campus English department and Sigma Kappa Delta Honor Society are seeking student entries for Script, a journal of students’ original work, by noon May 4. Students can submit art, photos, fiction/non-fiction or poetry to SFOD 1405A.
