TR Campus’ not having a basketball gym won’t stop it from having a basketball tournament, said TR intramural coordinator Nick Giovannitti.
“We will have it [the tournament] off campus at Haws Recreation Center,” he said about the facility at 600 Congress St. in downtown Fort Worth.
The tournament will be a one-day affair 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 29, and Giovannitti said that space for the tournament would be limited.
“Sign-ups are only on Oct. 19 in the fitness center,” he said. “And we will only take the first five teams to sign up.”
Each team will be guaranteed at least four games in the round-robin tournament, Giovannitti said.
“After the first round of games, the top four teams will be single-elimination,” he said. “The top three teams get T-shirts.”
Giovannitti explained the rules of the competition. Each game will either end after 10 minutes or after the first team reaches 15 points, whichever comes first.
“The games will be half-court with two games going on at once,” he said. “Shots behind the three-point line count as two points with everything else counting as one.”
If the tournament goes well, TR will try a five-on-five tournament in the spring, Giovannitti said.
