Well, here it is October, the month of spooky, and I’m still wondering where all the ghost hunters are.
OK, all the nonbelievers go ahead and laugh. Let us pause for a moment until you regain your composure because I know you want to keep reading.
Really, we know ghosts are out there. Y’all just aren’t ready for the idea.
When I first came to TCC, I was hoping to join a paranormal investigating group and get with some like minds. Although there are a few like minds, there are no paranormal clubs on any campus.
When it comes to discussing matters such as ghosts with professors, some are more open-minded than others. One instructor actually encouraged me to send in a video I have from a haunted radio station to be analyzed. He said the first person to provide proof of the paranormal is going to be very rich, which is certainly motivating.
I think what motivates me, though, is curiosity.
Staunch nonbelieving professors are curious, too. While discussing the paranormal, I presented my best photographic evidence to one such professor. After looking over the photographs, he said it made him think.
It doesn’t take much to be a ghost hunter. A sense of adventure and a little curiosity go a long way.
For beginners, a camera with extra batteries (lots of them), a compass, an electromagnetic field detector, audio and video recorders and pen and paper are about all one needs. More in-depth equipment is available, and I would love to get my hands on some of it but am not quite that advanced yet.
Other colleges have ghost hunters. The innkeeper of a Fort Worth bed and breakfast told me a group from TCU frequents that haunt.
Surely, we aren’t scared. Are we?
I will admit I got scared and had to quit hunting for more than a year once. That was after visiting the Winchester House in California when the door to the séance room politely and slowly creaked itself open just as I was about to enter. I think I’m good now, though.
So, if anyone starts a paranormal investigation group, let me know. Maybe I can tag along.
