For NW Campus flag football champions, White Chocolate, confidence isn’t exactly lacking leading up to the District Cup Nov. 19.
“I think we should take it [District Cup] pretty easily,” said team captain Andy Sullivan. “We’ll be fine.”
White Chocolate wide receiver Brandon Burcie agreed with Sullivan, saying he feels good about the tournament as well.
“I always go into a game confident no matter what the challenge,” he said.
Sullivan, the White Chocolate quarterback, gave his team’s unity and a scrimmage played against TR’s representative as reasons for his confidence.
“We’ve been a team for three years now,” he said. “So we’re pretty familiar with each other. Plus, we played TR a few weeks ago and beat ’em 28-14. So yeah, we’ll be fine.”
White Chocolate went through their regular season schedule without much trouble, Burcie said.
“We beat most teams fairly easily,” he said. “Only a couple teams gave us a challenge.”
The team also has benefited from playing in a flag football league outside of school.
“We play out in Haltom Sunday nights,” Sullivan said. “It’s called Flag Football X. It’s pretty good competition.”
Even though its campus’ championship game was weeks ago, White Chocolate receiver Tim Barnett doesn’t believe the long layoff will affect them.
“It shouldn’t be a factor,” he said. “We’ll be fine.”
With the weekend of the District Cup approaching, excitement is certainly mounting.
“Oh yeah, I’m excited,” Burcie said. “It’s always a blast to play. I try and play football as much as I can.”
Sullivan echoed that sentiment.
“I’m excited. I’m ready,” he said.
