Intramural flag football will get into full swing this month as three campuses are set to begin their respective leagues.
NE Campus will hold its first games Oct. 15 starting at 12:30 p.m. next to the tennis courts. SE Campus is set to get under way with its league at 9 a.m. Oct. 16 while South Campus will begin at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
NE director of intramurals Bart Desender said football on his campus has always been a student favorite.
“Ever since I started coordinating football, we’ve seemed to always have a good turnout every year,” he said. “It’s fun to do and usually very competitive.”
NE student Dakota Whitaker, who is in his third year at TCC, said this is also his third year playing flag football.
“It’s great. We always have a big turnout, and the teams every year are surprisingly competitive,” he said. “I get to be a team captain this year, so I’m hoping it will be just as good of a league as last year’s was.”
Danny Aguirre, SE director of intramurals, said interest has actually grown from last year’s flag football league.
“This is only our second year doing football, and already we have four more teams signed up than last year,” he said. “We went from 12 to likely 15 or 16.”
The winner of each campus will play in a round-robin tournament starting Nov. 20 to decide the district championship. NW Campus, which held its football league earlier, will send its winning team to play following the conclusion of the remaining intramural leagues.
TR Campus will not participate in football this semester.
