Students to learn about managing stress at workshop

By Ashton Phillips/reporter

TR students will learn how to manage stress during a lunchtime workshop Oct. 20.

Lori Leach, TR counselor and Stress Management and Relaxation presenter, said at this point in the school year, students can start to get anxious or overwhelmed.

“I hope to help raise awareness in students of the warning signs of stress,” she said. “It is a stressful time in the semester with projects and mid-term exams.”

Students will learn to be more aware of oncoming stress and to identify with their stress.

Leach said students will also leave with several strategies to help reduce their stress.

Leach provides personal, career and academic counseling to TR students.

She obtained her bachelor’s in psychology as well as a master’s in counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso. She joined the TR staff in June 2009 and has been in the counseling profession for 25 years.

The workshop, sponsored by the Center for Academic Success, will be held noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102.
