The fifth annual golf tournament hosted by NW Campus will be Oct. 22 at The Golf Club at the Resort in Fort Worth 1-6 p.m.
Tee off is at 1 p.m., and golfers are advised to arrive at noon for check-in.
The Cornerstone Honors Program originally designed the tournament to raise funds for the design and building of the memorial wall tribute to the fallen soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The wall, built in 2004, sits in the NW Campus courtyard and holds close to 4,000 names.
Beginning as a class project, the interest in the memorial increased to a continual upkeep and update of the wall each year.
The tournament is open to anyone interested in golfing. Sponsorships are available for those who are non-golfers.
Food will be provided as well as golf carts and drawings for prizes.
“Just a fun event and a way for the community to interact and do something good,” said Anhha Spencer of the NW Cornerstone program.
The program hopes more than 50 registered golfers will participate in the event.
Some golfers play in teams while others play alone. The cost for a four-man scramble is $70 per player or $250 for a team of four. This price includes a round of golf, cart, meal and prizes.
With participation from across the campus, instructors, students and staff members have all taken part in the golf tournament.
“I have been involved with the tournament we have been doing for the wall,” said Mike Nichols, history professor and Cornerstone adviser.
NW finds pride in this event because of the uniqueness the wall has to the campus.
Cornerstone member Tyler January said she is glad to be a part of the project.
“I think it is a really cool thing that we do, a great experience,” she said. “I do have a lot of pride. The wall is something you walk by and see every day.”
