SE Campus’ literary magazine The Compass placed second in its division of the Community College Humanities Association competition.

TCC is the only Texas community college to win in this year’s competition. The magazine entered during the summer.

SE English instructor Pennie Boyett said the staff had hopes for The Compass to win an award. It is the first magazine SE Campus has had since The Oracle 11 years ago.

“We thought our chances were high,” she said. “We found out about the award two weeks ago. Eighty percent of the content was done by the students on staff. The Compass has 72 pages, so it’s much larger than The Oracle.”

The award will be presented Oct. 30 in Houston.
