Flag football on NE Campus resumed Oct. 23 as students gathered for the second week of games on a rainy Saturday morning.
The six teams made the most of it as the Knights topped the Chiefs 27-14 in the first game. Swag Attack, playing in their first official game, beat 24/7 by the score of 39-13. And the outnumbered Untouchables snuck past the Gymrats 29-24.
“It’s really not unusual for people to not show up with having to work or forgetting there’s a game that day,” student Kyle Holt of the Knights said. “It’s like that every year, but I still really enjoy playing.”
Although severe weather came later in the day, the rain held off until the end of the third and final game, creating a damp, but manageable playing field.
Swag Attack captain Gabe Sierra said he was just happy his team finally played a game.
“We weren’t able to go last week because the team we were scheduled against didn’t show,” he said. “So we were all really glad to get out there and play. I think we have a pretty good team, and I was disappointed we couldn’t play last week.”
Sierra said he and his teammates have been good friends for quite a while, and they have all played football together in the past despite not having played flag football at TCC before.
Eight teams had been scheduled to play because the Comebacks, who had already joined with 24/7 during the first round of games, had not been removed from the bracket. Therefore, To Be Decided was granted a forfeit win after losing last week.
Because the teams play in a double-elimination bracket, any team that has lost twice will be eliminated from championship contention, said NE intramural director Bart Desender.
Football will resume Oct. 29 with the first game beginning at 12:30 p.m.
